By mixing fine bone china slip and shredded tissue paper, I create thin sheets of highly textured, flexible paper clay. I assemble these sheets into cylinders and other forms, ripping the edges to create seams that look like torn paper.
The firing process creates a vase that is both so thin and delicate it lets the light through, yet surprisingly strong and resilient.
I am fascinated by this interplay between form and structure and how appearances can be surprising, especially how textures can impact perception, and how perception is changed when a piece is held.
