Emma’s mixed-media paintings, both figurative and abstract, are inspired by the natural and mythical worlds and expressed through her signature mark-making and love of contemporary dance. She works on heavy paper, canvas and board using everything from gilding wax and recycled media to cold tea.
Many of Emma’s figurative paintings are now available as limited edition giclee prints on UK-manufactured, 100% cotton Somerset Velvet paper. Emma then signs, embosses, numbers and hand-finishes her prints with iridescent and metallic inks and mediums.
Emma studied art and design at Wimbledon Art School and Kingston University, going on to pursue a career as an art director and set designer for film and television.
Her paintings have been exhibited across the UK, including London, Oxfordshire, Cornwall and her Brighton hometown. Emma’s work has also been exhibited as part of a celebration of French and English coastal artists in Ste Marguerite Sur Mer.
“I want my work to feel dynamic and for the viewer to feel energised. Whether I’m trying to capture the gentle power of angelic wings, a windswept walk or the colour and smell of the seaside, I want to express my sensory response to the subject. The traces that remain when I close my eyes. Sometimes this takes a totally abstract form, sometimes it’s more representational. I love re-using my colour tests and sections of old drawings - they get a new life as the base element of my works on canvas.”
