Nicki Mayne is a figurative painter based on the South Coast of England. “I prefer to paint from life wherever possible, as I find I have a more intuitive and authentic approach to what I’m seeing. My work starts with a gestural line drawing in paint, followed by a succession of painterly layers. I continue to refine the underlying drawing and focus on subtle shifts in colour and luminosity.
Over the years, my work has tended to have a personal connection to my life and the people and places that are important to me. Themes in my work include family life, the beauty of the human form and the natural world”.
