Building on the simplification of planar structures and textured topography achieved by abstract expressionists such as Richard Diebenkorn and the evocative abstractions of Turner, themes of environmental change, curiosity of place and the dynamics of river, valley and sea scapes are recurring.
The goal of my painting is to use perspective and shadow to create depth and my learning is currently focused on colour mixing and blending of subtle palettes and textures with stark elements to reflect the luminosity and vibrancy associated with late afternoon sunshine in different locations.
