I’m a self-taught contemporary artist based in East Sussex, creating textured abstract and semi-abstract paintings inspired by emotion, experience and the natural world around me.
My work moves between atmospheric landscapes and more intuitive abstraction. Sometimes a painting begins with something I’ve observed, such as shifting clouds, changing light, a distant horizon or colours within the landscape. Other pieces begin simply with a feeling, memory or experience and develop more instinctively as I paint.
Texture is a central part of my work. I build layers using acrylic paint, modelling paste and metallic details, creating tactile surfaces that change with the light and invite you to look a little closer.
My own experiences inevitably find their way into my paintings, particularly living with a chronic autoimmune condition. Painting gives me a way to explore feelings such as uncertainty, resilience, calm and change without needing to represent them literally.
Whether recognisable or completely abstract, I want my work to capture a feeling rather than tell the viewer exactly what to see.
