My process begins with a bicycle ride during which I sketch and immerse myself in the Sussex landscape. Back in the studio I start by working closely from drawings made outdoors, returning often to the same spot to gather more information and reflect the constant shift in nature. I try to give the impression of change, flux and movement through thin layering of paint, and sketchy gestural mark making.
