My name’s Julian and I’m an emerging trans & queer artist living in Brighton. I would describe my work as: eclectic, emotionally evocative and colourful.
I draw inspiration from many forms of abstract expressionism: geometric, shapes/line work, ‘doodling’, fast brush stroking and cubism.
I mainly paint with acrylic on canvas and I love it because the medium can transform into anything you want it to be! From carefully crafted lines to the blurry dry-on-dry; impulsive dripping and splattering to smooth layering.
I have only been painting for a year but it has quickly become a very important part of my life and the source of my wellbeing. I rarely plan my pieces beforehand and tend to work intuitively.
The painting I chose is called “rain over the bridge”, I was in love at the time and painted it in 30 minutes.
