I’m a Hove-based painter working primarily with atmospheric landscape and seascape, moving between representation and abstraction. My recent paintings explore weather, water, shifting light and the memory of place through layered acrylic and oil, glazing, scraped surfaces and areas of heavier paint.
My background in geomorphology and applied mathematics has shaped the way I see landscape. I’m interested not only in how a place looks, but in the forces continually acting upon it – water, erosion, weather, tides and the passage of time. That sense of landscape as something dynamic and changing feeds directly into my painting process.
Recent work has drawn on Valencia and the Albufera in Spain, the Sussex coast, and the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I’m less interested in describing these places literally than in capturing their atmosphere, emotional presence and transience.
I trained in art at Brighton Met College and the Apollon Art Studio in Florence, and now work from Hove, developing contemporary landscape paintings that sit between observation, memory and abstraction.
