My practice explores the relationship between textiles and the natural world through machine knitted paintings. Inspired by the landscapes, wildlife and small details encountered in everyday life, I use knit to capture moments of nature, translating them into tactile, textured structures.
Working mainly in lace structures and carefully chosen yarns, I explore how knitted fabric can express movement, delicacy and the organic forms found in the world. Birds and folklore are at the centre of my work, creating a sense of whimsy and quiet symbolism but I am recently moving into exploring abstract landscapes alongside.
By approaching knitting as a painterly process, I use stitch, texture and colour to build images that sit between textile, drawing and painting. My work seeks to preserve fleeting observations of the natural world in a physical form, encouraging a closer appreciation of the beauty found in our surroundings.
