My practice explores the connections between tactile craft and visual memory. By deconstructing personal and familial photographs then rebuilding by hand, I transform fleeting moments into physical artefacts. Each piece is handwoven in silk, a process with introduces delicate and rhythmic texture to the stillness of a photograph. Reanimating the memory. The slow crafted process of my practice is a reflection of the rarely seamless, sometimes fuzzy preservation of the past, mimicking the visual vibration of a thought just out of reach. A collection of fragments held together through time.
The process of hand weaving is central to my craft. An intentional practice which forces a re-examination of the landscapes, people and places we hold dear. The act of weaving is a way to capture and hold a feeling. By combining a traditional textile process with the more modern medium of photography, I invite the viewer to experience my work as a tapestry of lived experience.
