I make small-scale paintings using mostly watercolours and acrylic inks. I enjoy the flow and drift of working with these materials, and the radiance that their translucency brings. What they create on paper is unpredictable and capricious and I am constantly surprised and delighted as our joint process unfolds.
My inspiration is in the environment, the natural beauty and rolling valleys of the Weald. I’m drawn to the mysterious fluidity and dream-like quality of these ancient landscapes. I find joy in small details on my walks and forage for fragments of pattern, pulse and colour that I can hold in my mind and take back to the studio to create an abstract internal world, a meditation on my experience. My pieces represent quiet moments of clarity, glimpses of enchantment.
My work has recently been shown in two group shows with Nimble Art School in Hastings, and I have an upcoming solo show at blackShed contemporary art gallery in Robertsbridge.
