Mhairi Lockett is a musician, poet and illustrator. Drawing inspiration from the DIY-ethos, traditional handpainted signs and music, her work has a folky ad-hoc feel. Using bold bright colours on reclaimed wood, she combines hand-painted typography, rhyme, rhythm and moving image as an advocate for social change and to encourage people to take action. Her practice is based around the idea that art and craft is synonymous with power, both personal and political. She explores the role of art as protest and as a part of community-led action.
